Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. - How many can you take?
A. - My rates are designed to accept 1 to 3 fishermen.   I can handle 4, but there is a $50 surcharge for the fourth person.

Q. - What do I need to bring?
A. - I supply all the bait and tackle, but you are certainly welcome to bring your own tackle if you like. Light snacks and Soft drinks and water are also supplied. I recommend you bring a good pair of polarized sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat. Rain gear is also recommended if inclement weather is forecast. It is generally cooler on the water than inland, so be prepared in fall and winter.

Q. - Do I need a license?
A. - No. I am required to buy a SC State Charter License that covers everyone on the boat.

Q. - What can I expect to catch?
A. - Our catch is determined by the season, and what is available. Please refer to the “Fish by Season” page, and it will give you a good idea of what to expect. If you have a species in mind that you would like to target specifically, i.e. sight casting artificials to Redfish on the flats, we can discuss our best options.

Q. - Where do we leave from and what time?
A. - I fish from St Helena Sound to Port Royal Sound, and all the creeks and rivers in between. I trailer my boat, and will decide at which landing we will meet, and the departure time, according to tides, the winds, and the bite. I will certainly try to make it convenient to your schedule and to where you are staying, and will contact you by phone a day or two in advance to finalize our trip.

Q. - How long have you been guiding in the Beaufort area?
A. - I have been a professional guide in this area for 13 years, and have been fishing this estuary system since 1990.
